Number of Openings: 0 Job Description Summary Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers. Essential Functions Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers Teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position, although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center Performs other duties as assigned Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred) Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting Experience working with community college students KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, And ABILITIES Possess working knowledge of writing concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations Ability to explain concepts to others effectively Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success Ability to work comfortably with people from a variety of backgrounds Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment Possess strong organizational and time-management skills Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of the community

The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, there will be walking; standing; bending; stooping; and carrying of various items and equipment. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position: This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $20.91/ hour. Any employment with the College is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screen.
