We are all employee-owners at HDR, which is the foundation of our collaborative culture that connects employees around the world.HDR New England Transportation Group is seeking to hire a Traffic Engineer to work on various transportation and safety design projects throughout New England and be based in our Boston Office. The Traffic Engineer's primary duties will include producing intersection layout and complete streets practices, pavement marking and signing, maintenance of traffic plans, traffic signal design plans and specifications, Traffic Impact Studies and design study reports, and safety analyses for transportation projects throughout New England. We're seeking someone who enjoys collaborating with a team and will help enhance the group's technical performance. This person will play an active role in assisting our transportation team in working with state and municipal agencies throughout New England and mentoring younger staff members and helping them develop their engineering skills while providing encouragement and motivation. Primary ResponsibilitiesIn the position of Traffic Engineer, we'll count on you to:Perform traffic engineering analysis and design consisting of traffic modeling and analysis, traffic signal design, traffic safety analyses, signing and striping design, safety planning and analysis for strategic highway safety plan developmentAssist with the preparation of traffic signal design plans, signing and striping plans, maintenance of traffic plans and PS&E packages, and work with the roadway design team to evaluate to evaluate traffic systems and recommend solutions.Perform crash analysis and safety studies as part of more extensive transportation assessments.Conduct operational traffic analysis using various modeling tools, ranging from highway capacity software to complex micro-simulation models, and apply results to sound engineering practice; analyze everything from isolated intersections and roundabouts to urban arterials and freeway segments.Write traffic impact and transportation assessment reports to communicate analysis results and recommendations clearly and present findings to the team.Perform detailed checks and quality control reviews of design work performed by other design team members.Perform as traffic engineering task leader, coordinating with other disciplines.Perform other duties as needed.Preferred QualificationsExperience in adaptive signalization, transit signal design, and ITS, is a plusKnowledge and experience with New England transportation agency, Complete Streets, NACTO, FHWA, and AASHTO policies and proceduresExperience in the design of traffic control Tactics, systems management, communications, ITS systems and sequencing plans is a plusExperience using PTV Vissim, GuideSign, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office is a plusPreference is given to Local candidatesPTOE Certification is a plusRSP Certification is a plus#LI-JC7QualificationsRequired Qualifications Bachelor's degreeExperience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/designRequires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.Detailed hands on experience conducting traffic design using CAD platforms including MicroStation, Autocad and Guide Sign softwareDetailed hands on experience conducting operational analysis using a variety of analysis and modeling tools specific to support job duties, including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and AimsunDetailed hands on experience conducting safety analysis using a variety of safety software tools including Highway Safety SoftwareProficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, WordStrong verbal and written skillsAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a mustWhat We BelieveHDR is our company.
