Description School Custodian III, WS-02 Salary Range $4,849.00 per month Examples of Duties Direct work of subordinates in providing custodial services for the school Assigns, lays out, inspects and supervises work of subordinates to keep buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition Performs more difficult maintenance work on plumbing, electrical fixtures and woodwork not requiring journey worker trade skills Supervises custodial staff in preparation for special school functions Has charge of cleaning and operational maintenance of special school equipment such as swimming pools, auditoriums and loud speaker systems Supervises or participates in the propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants and lawns Requisitions, receives, stores and inventories janitorial supplies and equipment; maintains records of supplies dispensed and equipment issued Makes reports on work accomplished and of unusual happenings or accidents; keeps daily time sheets Has security responsibility for the school; turns "night lights" on and off at proper hours May supervise student help when assigned; may operate power lawn mowers May perform typical duties of lower level custodians if necessary Minimum Qualifications Experience Requirement: Applicants must possess the type and amount of experience described below. General Experience: Progressively responsible work experience in one or a combination of the following areas: janitorial or related custodial work, grounds maintenance work (cleaning, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping, raking), and general laboring experience (moving materials, furniture, equipment; loading/unloading trucks; carrying and stacking tools; digging trenches and ditches). Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years of general experience and 2 years of supervisory experience, totaling at least 4 years. Supervisor Aptitude: Demonstrated evidence of supervisory aptitude through successful completion of supervisory assignments, completion of supervision training courses with application of skills, or favorable supervisor appraisals indicating supervisory potential. Quality of Experience The required number of years of experience alone is not proof of qualification. The applicant must demonstrate that overall experience was at a scope and level of responsibility sufficient to perform the duties of the School Custodian III position.
